NEC New Zealand enables New Zealand to become a smart nation
Wellington, 7 April 2016 - NEC New Zealand, a leading solutions and service provider of IT and networks, today announced that it hosted an event to showcase its innovative suite of Smart City technologies and solutions to a distinguished group of guests consisting of central and local government leaders at NEC’s Smart City Hub in Wellington.
Guests at the event included the Hon Louise Upston, Minister for Land Information, Wellington Mayor Celia Wade Brown, Christchurch Mayor Lianne Dalziel, along with other council and government members. The visit was officiated by NEC Asia Pacific CEO Tetsuro Akagi and NEC New Zealand Head of Smart City Solutions Tim Packer.
As the official technology partner of Land Information New Zealand’s (LINZ) Smart City coalition, NEC provides the practical building blocks and technical capability for the projects with Wellington, Christchurch and Auckland councils. NEC will be implementing smart city initiatives such as traffic counting and city sensing, which provides an opportunity to trial the use of technology.
During the visit to NEC, the Minister, mayors and government leaders were presented with an overview of NEC’s innovative smart city technologies and the projects currently underway in Wellington, Christchurch and Auckland. They also had an in-depth look at the technologies such as CCTV camera software to support the monitoring of traffic for asset management and the implementation of a sensing platform to monitor factors such as air and water quality.
“NEC’s sensor technology, together with the geographic information we have provides opportunities to enhance and improve the quality of life in our cities, creating better places for people to live and play in,” said Hon Louise Upston, Minister for Land Information.
“We are proud to be the technology partner for the LINZ Smart City coalition in partnership with Wellington, Christchurch and Auckland. This proof of concept is locally designed by NEC New Zealand. We’ll continue to provide our ICT and solutions together with local innovations and contribute to safer and more secure communities in New Zealand,” said Tetsuro Akagi, CEO of NEC APAC.
